Sweet fue una banda de rock formada en Inglaterra en 1965 con el nombre de Wainwright's Gentlemen, hasta 1968 despúes de algunos cambios de integrantes cambiaron su nombre al actual.
Historia
A principios de 1965 el baterista Mick Tucker y el legendario vocalista Ian Gillan tocaban una mezcla de R&B y Psycodelia en algunos clubs del Reino Unido. En Mayo de este año Gillan se retira para formar la banda Episode Six, y despúes formó parte de Deep Purple. En su remplazo llego a la banda en 1966 Brian Francis Connolly. Tucker y Conolly siguieron con la banda hasta 1968 cuando reclutaron a Steve Priest (vocalista), Frank Torpey (guitarra) para formar Sweetshop. Al mismo tiempo otra banda Inglesa lanzo un sencillo bajo el mismo nombre, por lo que lo recortaron a Sweet.
Ese mismo año firmaron contrato con Fontana Label y en Julio lanzaron su pimer sencillo "Slow Motion", el cual fue un fracasó y perdieron el contrato, después de esto Frank Torpey dejó la banda.
En 1969 ingresa a la banda el guitarrista Mick Stewart y consiguen un contrato con EMI's Parlophone. Tres sencillos más fueron lanzados: Lollipop Man" (Septiembre de 1969), "All You'll Ever Get From Me" (Enero de 1970), y el cover de The Archies, "Get On The Line" (Junio de 1970). Todos fallaron y Stewart dejó la banda, fue reemplazado por Andy Scott.
Uno de los mayores éxitos cosechados por la banda llegó con el tema, "Ballroom Blitz" (Septiember, 1973), título que fue traducido al español como “Alboroto en salon de baile.
